I'm not familiar with the Palm or the client it uses, so all I can really tell you is the settings you need.
Incoming mail server: pop-server.nycap.rr.com
outgoing mail server: smtp-server.nycap.rr.com
for username/login, use your whole email address:
xxxxx@nycap.rr.comand whatever password goes with it.
They did something a few weeks ago that made the servers more picky about full server name and the login email, that might be affecting you.
The errors your palm client is giving you are not familiar to me at all. They look more like local application errors than mail server errors.
Other possibilities include a malformed email (like a bad spam message) could be blocking the mail parsing.
Or sometimes a very large email (with large attachments) can also cause mail clients to choke.
You could log into the RR webmail to see if there are any problem messages in your inbox.
