Author Topic: Long boot up time and Windows Explorer very slow since getting a new modem  (Read 186 times)

My desktop takes over 5 minutes to boot up. I do not have many programs running in the background. The only icons in the taskbar are the CA Security Suite, volume speaker, AdAware, and the "Safely Remove Hardware" which I assume is for the USB adapter for my Ethernet cable. The only items checked in the msconfig startup menu are: cctray, QOELoader, CAVRID, cafw, capfasem, and a box on a blank line.

I've also noticed that since getting a new cable modem installed a few weeks ago, my Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), the folder and file manipulation program, is very slow to respond. It takes an agonizingly long time to open, rename, move or delete folders and files. Does the new modem have anything to do with this problem, or is it just a coincidence, and what can I do to get the Windows Explorer folder back up to speed? I've already tried running a disk scan, emptying temp files, virus and malware scans and even a system restore. Any suggestions appreciated. Assume I'm not too computer savvy. Thanks.

The modem cannot affect how your computer runs.
You note in your other post that you are using USB ethernet adapter. My suspicion is that the computer has a problem with the USB drivers that is causing some difficulty, even thought the USB connection is working. And if you do have an ethernet adapter that is also not working, I further suspect driver issues.
But the modem itself does not do anything to your computer. As i noted in my other response, we are happy to come check out your modem, but we can't do computer repair.
